The Ghana Music Honours was established in 2012 to cultivate the understanding, appreciation and advancement of the contribution of recorded music to the Ghanaian society; from the artistic and technical legends of the past to the musical breakthroughs of future generations of music professionals.

The honour is awarded by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) to recognize outstanding achievement in the music industry. The Awards have grown over the years and now has 20 categories adjudged by an academy of musicians (peers) and one popular category voted for by the general public.

The annual presentation ceremony features performances by prominent artists and is an event attended strictly by the invitation of the Union. Over the years, invitees have been musicians, outstanding members of the Ghanaian society and members of the diplomatic corp.
